Well, I'm not sure if they have any yet, but Vaja is very nice and cool. Fairly expensive though. You could also get a BodyGuard or BSE or Invisible Shield if you would like to still see the Touch and have it be thin.

There have been other online stores that sell computer programs/applications before apple created the "app store" None of them used the word App in their store name.

Examples:

MobileRated
Cellmania

Apple launches a store just like these but better and called the store "App Store"

Post apples launch other phone makers/OS systems start to scramble.

App Catalog = Palm
App World = RIM
Amazon AppStore = Amazon

Stores that didn't ride apples coattails

Android Market = Android
Ovi Store = Nokia
Windows Phone Marketplace = Microsoft.


If "app store" was so obvioius and generic why did no one call their store "App store" until apple did? This is like everyone that argues that the iphone is so generic with it's icons and screen. I mean so obvious. No it's not obvioius.

If it was obvious Netjar, Mobilerated, Steam etc.. would just say "App Store" instead of some other random word.

Even the unauthorized iphone Store Cydia doesn't use the word app in their store name. "Unauthorized App Store" "Rogue App Store"

App Store is apple.

Even Wikipedia's serach term "app store" goes to the apple "app store" page. if want other onlilne phone stores you need to go to the disambiguation section.

believe it or not back in the 70ties Opel actually had a trendy, sporty and young reputation/image not unlike Audi has today

in fact i have some old magazines around from the early 70ties and its hilarious to read if you compare the raving reviews Opel got in the past with todays "not as bad as other cars but still cheaper than a VW" reviews

I think you highlight the real issue in the rest of your post. But it doesn't just affect Opel. And that is perhaps GM's biggest problem of all.


it's not exactly GM alone:
yes VW are really bland looking too, but opposed to many GM vehicles if you take the badge away you would be still able recognize that the vehicle is a VW ... with some of the new Opels i'm not so sure (Chevrolet at least got that hideous split grill),
Ford actually isn't any better. their latest fiesta very much looks like a 8 year old peugeot from the front. hardly surprising their sales havent quite lived up to the last models sales afaik

yes they are selling the GT-R in europe and launching their own luxury brand Infiniti... for what ? to follow the "success story of 20 years Lexus europe"

at least hyundai finally realised that those names they were putting on their models weren't the brightest idea in 95% of all cases

regarding testing/timing the cars on the N�rburgring: knowing that Audi, BMW and Mercedes have an gentlements agreement not to publish their timed laps i think it's quite a hollow victory for some brands to publish theirs

the argument for that silent agreement ? they don't want "a horsepower arms race"... look how well that has turned out

Multiple cores are very useful when you run more then one application at a time as long as the operating system is able to allocate core use to more than one application at a time (as OSX does quite nicely). Therefore, with multiple cores, you will get better performance for each application when more then one applicaiton is run at the same time.

When Intel multicore processors are used (as in the Mac Pro) which support hardware virtualization, you can run software (such as Parrallels Desktop) that lets your run additional operating systems (such as Windows, Solaris, and Linux) concurrently with OSX at near full native speeds since one or more cores are used for OSX and one is used for each of the virtual operating systems.

Therefore, multiple cores are still useful even if many of the applications you use are not highly multithreaded.

Please don't become one of those photographers who thinks they can "just add video" to their list of services because their DSLR shoots video. It's a lot more complicated than that.

I'm kinda glad FCP and other tools cost as much as they do. It keeps the professionals serious about their craft. Having been on both sides of the fence, being a photographer doesn't make you a videographer and vice versa.

Netflix and Blockbuster's Mail Delivery Business Plan is flawed. Here's why:

1) Physical DVDs starch and become useless after many times of use or by shipping and handling.

2) Shipping Cost is only going to increase and this is an overhead that NO COMPANY WANTS. Plus having to maintain distributing centers in each state with physical inventory that has to be maintained, organized and checked for quality control.

3) People watch movies on an impulse. Do you ever plan what movie you are going to watch several days in advance? NO. I know at my house, we subscribed to Blockbusters DVD Mail Service only because we get 2 Free in-store movie rentals each month. This is because I don't know what I want to watch, until I go to the store and see what they have available and what MOOD we're in. Maybe I felt like a Comedy a couple of days ago, but now I want a Thriller, so instant gratification is a BIG KEY to this new service from Apple. Whatever mood you are in, you don't have to wait a few days to receive it from Netflix, just to play it and it's so starched up that you are not able to view it.

PS for the people who don't know apple does not support Crossfire or SLI in mac os x so the 6990 which is a dual GPU on a single card solution will not and can not be supported until they change how osx works.

I forgot about the Mac Pro's

when it said ATI 6970 I thought, Yay, finally an iMac that normal people will buy will be fitted into an iMac and make it a worthy competitor to a good spec PC.

Then it dawned on me, I'm stupid and probably none of the upper end models will find their way into iMac's will they? :(

Its unlikely they will fit in an imac case. They are about 30cm long and are all dual slot.

gakhOct 23, 03:00 PMI'll probably be waiting awhile, but I won't be purchasing a MBP until it has the Core 2 Quadro, built-in bootable flash memory for quicker booting times, and a hard drive that can be easily swapped out like the MB line currently has. It makes more sense to me to have a Professional line of notebooks with a hard drive that can be replaced easily than having consumer notebooks with this feature. After a user returns with my company's shared notebook, I could simply swap out the HD with a cleanly imaged HD to give to the next user. Why would the average home user or a non-tech college student with a MB need to swap out their drives through the battery compartment, but not a professional user? Steve - I'm not asking for a lot here.

Until I see these features or at least two of the three, I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade just yet.

theBBJul 18, 12:18 PMYou cannot rent an HD movie from Blockbuster or Netflix, so what makes you think "Apple has to offer HD quality". There is no need to have better quality than competitors while also providing more convenience.

What is so wrong about stereo sound? A lot of people use the speakers of their TVs for the sound of a movie. Most movie do not really take advantage of sourround sound that much, where you feel like the sound is coming from the left or from behind etc. You might as well use your 5 speakers in stereo mode.

$2 per rental ain't gonna happen. That's a pipedream. If movie indutry is licensing movies to Movielink for $4-5, it is not gonna let Apple do this for much lower prices. At that price it would be much more expensive than Netflix and with a much smaller library, so my subscription will have to stay. I can only use Apple's service as an add-on, when I really want to watch a movie, but Netflix DVD is still in the mail. Besides, I would have to get a Mac mini for the living room. Well, the cost just keeps adding up.

BabyFaceMageeJan 11, 11:30 PMThere are several companies that have been working on various ways to provide power without cords "the holy grail" being the eventual elimination of power cords for all sorts of computers, applicances etc.

My guess is that they will have a 'basic' version of this workable for a low power mac laptop that can be powered in a room with a wireless power transmitter doing away with the need for a power cord. As long as you are within range, similar to a wireless signal, the mac air will be able to charge and receive power wirelessly.

You heard it hear first.
